EuroMillions Information and History
Play EuroMillions Online
EuroMillions is, in fact, one of the most known lotteries, and for a good reason. It is easy to play, and you can get a ticket to play in many different places. You can choose to play EuroMillions online or in-store via authorized retailers in participating countries, but the typical steps for how to play remain the same:
- You have to select five main numbers between 1-50. Also, the two numbers for Lucky Stars, between 1-12.
- Then you have to choose the number of lines you want to play with.
- Remember that you must buy your ticket before the draw’s cutoff time.
- After you get the ticket, just kick back, relax and wait for the winning numbers to be announced.
Instead, if you want to buy a ticket from a retailer, fill out a payslip. Mark your selected numbers or tick the Lucky Dip option, then you must choose if you participate in the Tuesday or the Friday draw. However, you can also select both of them, and get four weeks of games in advance. Once you have chosen everything, just purchase the slip from the retailer, and wait for the drawings.
You can choose to play through retailers in all nine participating countries, but you have to claim EuroMillions prizes from the same nation where you bought your ticket. So, if you play in France and win, it’s not possible to claim your money in the UK. If you want to play online, know that playing online has become increasingly popular because it gives some benefits over buying a ticket from a retailer. For example, when you buy your EuroMillions online ticket, it will be stored in your account, and can’t be lost, stolen, or damaged, unlike paper tickets. You will be informed with a notification if you win, so you don’t need to check the results.
Direct Debit
Another benefit of entering online is that National Lottery players can continuously get new lines to ensure they never miss a draw. To set up a “Direct Debit,” we recommend to follow these simple steps:
- First, you must fill your online payslip. For that, you need to choose the numbers, lines, and how many drawings you want to participate in. There are Tuesday and Friday draws, and you can take part in both of them.
- Now you have to choose the part that says “play continuously by Direct Debit.” Select this instead of entering the number of weeks.
- Then you just need to add your bank sort code and the number of accounts.
The Direct Debit will take around four weeks to begin, and you will then be entered automatically into your selected draws. You will obtain a different Millionaire Maker entry for each draw. You can also make some changes to your personal details, the numbers you want to use, and even the draws you wish to participate in. You can do this at any moment, and all you have to do is go to your own account.
How to Select the Numbers for Your Ticket
Choosing the right numbers can make the difference between getting nothing or winning millions. We have gathered a few tips for you to get started with EuroMillions. There are different strategies for choosing your numbers. Also, it is possible to use the random number generator, in case you don’t know which ones you want. Some well-known procedures have been developed for playing EuroMillions. However, the only way to guarantee to hit the jackpot is to buy all 139,838,160 combinations, which isn’t feasible for most people or the smartest thing to do either!
Some “smart” EuroMillions schemes provide practical advice on how to make your odds of winning more positive or to increase the value of potential wins. At the same time, there are other processes developed by those who feel they can find success on EuroMillions by interpreting information that is personally significant to them. Moreover, the Pyramid Plan is a method of assigning numbers to letters to obtain a set of digits that mean a particular place, name, or word. It’s easy to transform your favorite location, title, or even band into lucky numbers.
You can choose your number randomly, through the EuroMillions Random Number Generator. It has been created to provide you with a way of generating numbers for EuroMillions without relying on ‘Lucky Dip’ selections. The Random Number Generator will choose five main numbers, which are between 1 and 50. Also, the two Lucky Stars, which are between 1 and 12. This happens every time the ‘Generate’ button is clicked. Besides, if you wish to generate more than one set of EuroMillions numbers, you just need to choose the amount. This can be done when you buy a EuroMillions online ticket.
How to Check the Result After the Drawings
To discover if you are an online lottery winner, compare your numbers against the results from the past 180 days. Then, you select the day of the draw, your five figures, and two Lucky Stars and hit ‘Check Results’ to begin. Having your tickets checked in an automatic way against previous results makes it easier to figure out if you’ve won a prize in a few seconds.
- To begin, add you five main numbers and both of the Lucky Stars into the box. It is possible to select either the grid entry or the manual entry method. You can switch between them by clicking the switch at the top of the page.
- Then you must insert your Millionaire Maker codes into the ‘Raffle Code’ box to check them at the same time as your principle numbers.
- If you happen to have multiple lines to check, it is possible to add more lines by clicking the ‘+Add Line’ button.
- Then, select how many days you’d like to check results for; 7 days, 30 days, or 180 days. You can also state if you would like to check Tuesday draws, Friday draws, or both.
- When you have entered your numbers, hit ‘Check.’ Your registered numbers will be verified against all draw results for the chosen date, and any winning matches will be underlined.
- Even if you have made any mistakes when entering your numbers, you will be able to come back by selecting the ‘Edit’ button at the top of the page.
It’s good to remember that even though the EuroMillions Results Checker is continuously updated, different errors can appear while using it. Always check that you have entered the correct numbers and other pieces of information before checking!
History of EuroMillions
When we talk about EuroMillions, we refer to a transnational lottery that requires seven correct numbers to win the jackpot. France’s Française des Jeux launched it on 7 February 2004. They held the first draw on 13 February 2004 in Paris. In the beginning, only France, UK, and Spain participated. The Belgian, Austrian, Luxembourgish, Irish, Portuguese, and Swiss lotteries joined for the 8 October 2004 draw. They held the draws every Tuesday and Friday night at 20.45. The necessary EuroMillions online ticket costs €2.50, £2.50, or CHF 3.50 for one line. However, the price can vary between countries and currencies.
Ireland has an exclusive option called “Plus,” which adds €1 per line. Moreover, in France, where a non-optional addition called “My Million,” adds €0.50 per line, in Portugal, it is called “M1lhão” and represents €0.30 of the total €2.50 bet. In the UK, the cost to play increased from £1.50 to £2 per line on 7 November 2009. Then on 24 September 2016, the price per line increased from £2.00 to £2.50 in the UK. On the same day, in Spain and Ireland, it rose to €2.50 per line as well.
All prizes, including the jackpot, are usually tax-free (however, not in Switzerland, Spain, and Portugal, starting from 2013), and they are paid as a lump sum. The prizes, and also the jackpot, are sized according to country participation, are paid at a flat rate, and are all exempt from taxes, except for Switzerland, Spain, and Portugal, of course. Everyone at least 18 years old (at least 16 years in the UK) who reside in one of the countries concerned can buy a ticket in one of the authorized points of sale, but there are also online “suppliers” for users who do not have access to kiosks. The probability of winning any of the prizes is 1 in 13. The likelihood of not guessing any main numbers or hitting both Lucky Stars is about 1 in 114. It means that the latter combination is less likely than finding two main numbers and one star (1 to 49). However, there is no prize for those who only pick the 2-star numbers. The exact prize amount varies based on the total prize pool and the number of winners for each jackpot.
Top Jackpot History of EuroMillions
There have been a lot of EuroMillions jackpot winners starting from the first draw in February 2004, with lucky players landing prizes worth between €16 million and €190 million. All nine participating countries have enjoyed success, from split jackpots with multiple winners to single ticket holders and syndicates of friends, family members, and peers. An Irish lady called Dolores McNamara won the first enormous jackpot of over €115.4 million on 29 July 2005. On 3 February 2006, three winners decided to share the prize that broke the record with the amount of €183 million. Two people from France and one from Portugal received €61,191,026 each.
With the purpose of limiting the jackpot from growing higher, the rules of the game changed between 2006 and 2009. The new rules say that after the twelfth draw without a winner, the jackpot amount would be rolled down and then shared between the winners in the next prize tier. This has happened for the first time on 17 November 2006, after over €183 million had accumulated in the jackpot. The entire amount was shared between the winners of the second rank (there were 20 winners who got €9.6 million each). The Bayford couple from England has won the first biggest jackpot with €190 million on 10 August 2012. They have received £148.6 million because the amount was paid in euros. The Weir couple from Scotland won a jackpot of €185 million on 12 July 2011. This was the highest jackpot won in the UK before 8 October 2019. In 2011 the prize was €185 million, and the exchange price in the earlier draw meant that a UK winner would have won £164 million on Friday 8 July. As it was, the Weirs matched all the numbers four days later to become EuroMillions’ biggest winners.
A jackpot of €190 million (£170.2 million) has been won by a unique ticket owner in the UK bearing the winning numbers – 7, 10, 15, 44, 49, and at the end the lucky numbers 3, 12. This is the highest EuroMillions jackpot ever won in the UK, and the exact amount was £170,221,000. The lucky jackpot winner decided, however, to be anonymous when they came forward to claim their prize, so no more information has been revealed about whether it was a person or a syndicate or where the ticket was bought.
